Sandra Murray

I'm feeling the need for new projects and inspiration again. Having just finished a dress commission for my sister, I am having a bit of a lul on my night off work with no current creative project to fill my time. So I've been on an inspiration hunt, and have found this lady. An exceptional couturier, originally from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland (can't beat home grown talent!) she now lives and works in Inverness. It's really nice to be reminded that moving to London is not the only option for a successful designer I must admit!
Colour and material are of great importance in her work, using tweeds and wool in combination with velvets, lace, silks, linens, and inspired heavily by the surrounding highland landscape. Tweeds and tartan play a large part in her designs. It is quite obvious from all of her pieces that each one is individually designed and constructed with the utmost consideration. Doing all the work by hand, the quality and finish is quite clearly excellent.
