Printyprints

Just thought i'd whack some photos of older work up, I specialise in printed/ mixed media textiles so just to get an idea of past projects.....
whack number one:
V&A quilt project 2008

This brief was very much about storytelling through craft, bringing quilting into a modern context. Samples geared towards a final quilt had to be produced, so these are some of the parts of my mock up quilt! I had lots of fun doing this one because I was looking at childhood art as a means of expression, so I got to sift through all my old drawings mum had kept... man I was stupid. haha. Anyway the quilt followed art though a lifetime and its purpose, beginning as a completely free and expressive pastime, to becoming, as in any artist/designer's case, a means to live. Agendas change, having to produce art to pay the bills, and a certain amount of freedom is lost. My design followed this change through decreasing levels of colour and chaotic patchwork and mixed media. I enjoyed the childhood bit best obv cos I'm pretty much a 5 year old in my head. Maybe 5 and a half.

WHACK number 2 ermmm other things from 2007/08...

This project was titled 'Urban Twilight', based on architectural lines and perspective with colours from dusk in the city.

The next 2 are just drawings, but from a project I really enjoyed, it was our Summer project after 2nd year and I based mine around the Edinburgh Fringe which I loooove! Like the mix you get in the city between the bizarre and vibrant modern performances and displays, and the old town traditional heraldry and architecture. If I ever work out a way to win the lottery and go without sleep for a month, I would very much like to fringe it up 24/7...../31. Hoooray.
